By now, most veterans are fully aware of the Pentagon’s continued push for higher fees and co-pays from military veterans covered by the Tricare health care system. Although Congress has blocked the fee hikes, the administration argues that the measures are necessary because Tricare benefits are “unsustainable” in the long term.

There’s no question the explosion of federal spending over the last decade is completely unsustainable. What’s alarming is that the Obama administration thinks it’s appropriate to demand that veterans pay more for their care, while ignoring the much larger programs that are driving the growth in federal spending.
