RECAP Blog | Tour Wrap Up Day 1 | October 19, 2012
The “We Can Do Better” Tour is off and running, live from New York City. The best part of the day was meeting up with my good friend, LTC (Ret.) Steve Russell (read about Steve here). Steve and I have known each other since 2007, and were on a similar tour together in 2008. He’s an incredible advocate for veterans, in addition to being a highly decorated combat leader, motivational speaker, and critically acclaimed author (We Got Him! A Memoir of the Hunt and Capture of Saddam Hussein). We’re excited and very fortunate to have Steve on the tour, along with so many other incredible veterans and military family members that will join us along the way.
Steve and I both arrived in the city on Thursday morning, and were up at O-Dark-30 this morning to meet the RV and appear on Fox & Friends in midtown Manhattan. Fox & Friends is the highest-rated morning show in America, and the perfect place to formally launch the tour. We’re honored but their support. From there, we grabbed a quick breakfast, before calling into a couple of local radio shows along the tour route (both in Virginia). Interest is building, and we’re excited to capitalize. The remainder of the day was booked with back-to-back media starting with Richmond Morning News. Steve and I were in-studio for both Fox News Kilmeade & Friends nationally-syndicated radio program and SiriusXM’s Wilkow Majority, hosted by my good friend Andrew Wilkow.
The day was capped off perfectly with an appearance on Glenn Beck’s The Blaze—joining the top-notch crew at Real News. Steve and I were afforded 15 minutes to talk about the tour, as well as CVA‘s recent web video (“Benghazi Jay“) and my op-ed in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal about dysfunction at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Finally, I had an op-ed on FoxNews.com today entitled “Our Veterans Deserve Better” that lays out the themes of the entire tour. All-in-all, a great day…as millions of Americans now know about the iCVA “We Can Do Better” Tour!
As I write this, we’re on our way to Washington, DC to prepare for three big events in Virginia tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing lots of vets, military families, and patriotic Americans at every stop. For info about Saturday’s events, click here.
Signing out,
Pete
